brow lift

A brow lift is a cosmetic procedure that raises the position of the eyebrows and smooths forehead wrinkles by removing excess forehead skin and tissue. The goal of this procedure is to provide a fresh and rejuvenated appearance on the upper third of your face. Whether due to aging or environmental factors, this procedure provides our Las Vegas patients with the youthful look they desire. If you believe this procedure may be right for you, contact Las Vegas Body Sculpting to schedule a brow lift consultation with triple board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Mustafa Ahmed.

About

A brow lift, also known as a forehead lift, lifts the eyebrows and reduces wrinkles that develop as we age across the forehead. The eyebrows commonly droop with age, potentially causing visual restrictions because the eyelids may droop as well. [1] This procedure also improves the appearance of frown lines, raises sagging eyebrows that are hooding the upper eyelids, and restores the eyebrows to a more youthful position.

Brow Lift Techniques

Open or Coronal

The incision for the open brow lift technique, also known as classic or coronal, is made along the hairline. Tissue and fat may be removed and muscles are appropriately repositioned for a more youthful appearance. The skin is then pulled tight and the excess is removed. This classic technique is not performed as often anymore since there are newer, less invasive options like the endoscopic technique, explained below. In some instances though, this technique may be what is necessary to attain the results a particular patient is looking for. [2]

Endoscopic

The endoscopic brow lift technique involves making a few small incisions disguised in the hairline on the scalp. A special endoscopic device is then inserted to gain visual access to the surgical area. Next, if necessary, muscles are shifted and fat and tissue are removed. The skin is then pulled from the incision locations to achieve a rejuvenated look. [3] This is a newer surgical technique and is very popular.

Each brow lift surgery is customized to the patient to make sure that their results compliment their natural features and overall appearance.

Benefits

A brow lift is a great option for patients who want a long-lasting solution to forehead rejuvenation compared to temporary dermal fillers. This procedure makes it so you do not look tired, worried, or mad when you really aren’t, it just appears like you are because of a furrowed brow due to aging. Brow lifts provide Las Vegas patients with a bright and revitalized appearance that passersby will simply appreciate without being able to tell that you’ve had a brow lift since the incision locations are so inconspicuous and results are very natural-looking.

Candidates

The ideal candidate for a brow lift surgery experiences low-set eyebrows, forehead creases, and/or hooded eyelids due to eyebrow drooping that may or may not cause blocked vision. It is typically performed on middle-aged women and men since the most common cause of a drooping brow is aging. This procedure is not ideal for patients with a noticeably receding hairline or severe asymmetry of the eyebrows since the skin is pulled as a single unit. [1] Patients should be in generally good health and not have any diseases or conditions that may increase surgical complications or issues properly healing. Keep in mind that smoking poses surgical risks as well.

Preparation

Preparation for brow lift surgery includes not smoking and not taking anti-inflammatory or herbal medications. Filling prescriptions and having supplies before surgery is ideal so it is one less thing to worry about postoperatively. Please also make sure to have a ride home arranged. Additional personalized instructions will be given to you before your surgery.

Procedure

Brow lifts are performed under general anesthesia and take roughly one to two hours. Depending on the predetermined technique, incisions will be made on either the hairline or the scalp. The skin will be lifted, fat and tissue are removed as necessary and muscle is moved accordingly. The skin is then pulled to create the desired aesthetic and the remaining skin is excised. Temporary sutures are then used to close the incisions and bandages will be placed.

Recovery

After brow lift surgery, the incision locations are wrapped in bandages and possibly tape; drains may be placed to drain fluid. You are able to shower the next day. Bruising and swelling are common the first couple of weeks after your surgery. After this period of time, you should be free to continue your normal routine; this will be better assessed during your follow-up visit.

Results

Results of a brow lift can be seen right after surgery, but the best results are to be enjoyed once your body has completely healed. Depending on the technique performed, it is possible for your brow lift to last 10+ years.

Realistic expectations are important. A brow lift cannot permanently combat natural aging effects, so it is possible for the eyebrows to eventually slightly droop. Further, brow lift surgery only addresses the upper portion of the face; it will not provide similar results to a facelift but it will leave you looking more youthful and alert.

Corresponding & Complementary Procedures

Las Vegas brow lifts improve the appearance of the upper third of the face. If you are seeking full facial rejuvenation, you may be interested in a facelift, neck lift, and/or blepharoplasty.

Facelift

If you wish to turn back the hands of time and regain your youthful visage, a facelift may be the perfect procedure to add to your brow lift because a facelift addresses the lower two-thirds of the face. A facelift, similar to a brow lift, utilizes discretely placed incisions along the hairline or ears to reposition muscle and tissue to create definition and restore a youthful contour.

Neck Lift

A neck lift removes loose neck skin and tissue to restore a youthful neck. Loose or sagging skin is a common effect of aging, unfortunately. That is why more than 160,000 women and men had neck lift surgery in 2020 alone! [4]

Blepharoplasty

Blepharoplasty or eyelid surgery is a procedure that addresses loose eyelid skin. While a brow lift can slightly raise the upper eyelid, it is not a procedure specifically designed to do so like blepharoplasty is. That is why the two cosmetic procedures can be performed together, to revitalize the top half of your face.

FAQ

Brow lift versus blepharoplasty

A brow lift focuses on lifting the eyebrows to a more youthful position on the face. This in turn can naturally raise the eyelids and smooth forehead creases. Blepharoplasty, also referred to as eyelid surgery, only addresses loose skin around the eyes. One procedure is not meant to replace the other, rather, both can be performed together for beautifully comprehensive results.

Are brow lifts popular?

Yes! The International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery reported that in 2019, more than 270,000 people received brow lifts. [5] It is a popular facial plastic surgery procedure for both men and women.

What is a non-surgical brow lift?

If you are just beginning to show signs of aging and do not wish to undergo a surgical procedure at this time, Botox is also referred to as a non-surgical brow lift. This is because it freezes the forehead muscles so they temporarily do not contract and this allows the dynamic wrinkles on the forehead to smooth and diminish in appearance. Botox cannot remedy skin laxity or deep creases; to address such effects, a traditional brow lift procedure would be best. Dr. Ahmed can help you decide on the best course of action during a personal consultation
