Teardrop vs. Round Breast Implants: What’s The Difference?

Teardrop vs. Round Breast Implants

Every breast augmentation procedure is different, and over the years, many different types of breast augmentation have appeared. For example, some women want to choose between getting breast implants or having fat graft breast augmentation.

There are even different types of implants, and not all women benefit from the same type of implant! The two main types of implants we’ll be discussing are round implants and teardrop implants. What’s the difference between them, and is one better than the other? Let’s see!

If you want to learn about breast implants replacement, we wrote an article talking about how often breast implants should be replaced.

What’s The Difference Between Teardrop vs. Round Breast Implants?

Before we talk about round vs. teardrop breast implants, let’s discuss how breast implants work. Breast implants are used to provide both size and shape to the breasts, giving them a fuller, more perky appearance. Breast implants are placed either under the breast tissue and above the muscle, or under the muscle and above the bone. This differs from fat graft breast augmentation in las vegas, which works by taking fat from other parts of the body and inserting it into the breast.

Now that we’ve covered what breast implants actually are, let’s discuss the difference between teardrop and round breast implants.

Round Breast Implants: The More Popular Choice

Round breast implants, as their name states, have a round symmetrical shape and can be filled with saline or silicone. They vary in diameter and degree of projection, depending on the size the patient wishes to attain.

They’re much more common for several reasons. First, they give the breast a more round, full appearance. Second, they provide more ample cleavage, which makes them look more impressive while wearing a shirt. Third, even though large ones may not look as natural as teardrop implants, properly sized round implants still provide a natural look.

Round implants are also much more natural-looking while the woman is lying down, as the filler becomes evenly distributed across the chest.

Teardrop Implants: For A More Natural, Asymmetrical Look

Teardrop implants aim to mimic the natural shape of the breast. As their name suggests, the implant itself is shaped not unlike a teardrop, where the upper area is thinner than the lower area. They’re typically made of cohesive silicone gel and are firm while still being soft to the touch.

They’re not as common, in part due to the fact that teardrop implants are a little more expensive than round ones. They’re also prone to rotating within the breast pocket and if this happens, it may require corrective surgery. However, their more natural appearance makes it a better choice for breast reconstruction after mastectomy.

Which Implant Is Right For Me?

Most patients will benefit more from a round breast implant, particularly if their main consideration is to augment the size of the breast and give it more of a lift. Teardrop implants are riskier, more expensive, and may need to be fixed later on.

However, if you don’t have much breast tissue to start with, or if you would prefer a more natural appearance, a teardrop implant might be recommended for you. Listen to what your surgeon recommends for you, as they’ll be able to tell you what will look best on your frame.
