About Breast Enhancement

Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation increases the size of your breasts for a curvier contour and fuller, perkier bust. During a breast augmentation procedure, Dr. Ahmed will use implants to increase the volume of your breasts for your desired look. Depending on the look you would like to achieve, we will carefully consider the implant type, implant placement, and incision to help you achieve your desired body contour.

Implant Type: Depending on your body shape and the look you would like to achieve, we can place saline, silicone, or gummy bear implants for breast augmentation. Saline implants are more prone to ripple in some patients. If you have a lower BMI, we will likely recommend silicone or gummy bear implants.
Implant Placement: There are three locations where Dr. Ahmed can place a breast implant: in front of the muscle, behind the muscle, or partially behind the muscle. The location will depend on your body proportions and desired breast shape. Dr. Ahmed will use the placement method that creates the most natural look.
Incision Type: The type of incision Dr. Ahmed will make during your procedure will depend on the size of the implant you need for your desired look. We can make an incision around the areola (areolar incision) beneath the breast, or inside the armpit. The incision can also run horizontally beneath the breast.

What is a Scarless Breast Augmentation?

Scarless breast augmentation does not leave visible marks on the breasts. Dr. Ahmed inserts deflated saline implants through a small incision in the belly button and guides them beneath your subcutaneous tissue. He will then fill them with saline when they are inserted into the breast pocket. Although standard breast augmentation techniques minimize scarring, some patients prefer to opt for the scarless procedure. The best option for you will depend on your skin type, your body goals, and the technique Dr. Ahmed recommends.

Breast Lift

A breast lift is a procedure that lifts and repositions the breasts for a more youthful appearance. If you do not wish to make your breasts bigger, and if you are suffering from breast sagging (ptosis), a breast lift may be the ideal solution.

The types of breast lift incisions include the following:

Crescent: A crescent incision runs along the top half of the areola only. This incision is best suited for women with smaller breasts with mild to moderate sagging.
Donut/Periareolar: If you have mild sagging, we can make an incision around the edge of the areola. The incision is slightly larger than the crescent lift and allows Dr. Ahmed to lift more of the breast tissue.
Lollipop: If you have slightly more excess skin, we can remove it with a lollipop lift, also known as a vertical lift. This is slightly more invasive than a donut lift to address moderately sagging skin.
Inverted T/Anchor: For moderate to severe sagging, we can make an incision along the edge of the areola, a vertical incision along the bottom of the breast, and a longer incision along the inframammary fold to eliminate it. ⁽²⁾

Breast Implant Exchange

A breast implant exchange is for women with previously augmented breasts who want a refresh. If you recently experienced changes to your weight or pregnancy, or your body has simply changed over time, you may have noticed a change in the appearance of your implants. Patients can undergo implant exchange to correct:

A ruptured implant
Rippling
Sagging breasts
Asymmetry
Implants that were not placed properly
Uncomfortable scar tissue (capsular contracture)

How long is a breast augmentation procedure?

Your breast augmentation procedure should not take more than an hour or two depending on the incision and the implant type you choose. If you are having an augmentation with lift, the procedure will take longer.

Will a breast lift also increase the size of my breasts?

A breast lift will not increase the size of your breasts, but an augmentation will. Your surgeon can perform both in a single procedure depending on your needs.

Can I have a breast enhancement procedure if I am thinking about becoming pregnant?

We recommend that you wait to undergo breast enhancement if you plan to become pregnant. Pregnancy and weight gain can affect your body proportions and your results.

How long will my implants last?

The lifespan of breast implants can vary depending on several factors, such as the type of implants and individual circumstances. On average, breast implants may last anywhere between 10 to 20 years. However, it is important to note that breast implants are not considered lifetime devices, and they may require replacement or removal in the future.

Can breast implants rupture or leak?

Yes, breast implants may rupture or leak over time. This can happen due to natural wear and tear, trauma, or other factors. In the case of saline implants, a rupture typically results in deflation and the loss of volume. With silicone implants, a rupture may be silent or undetectable without an MRI. Regular monitoring and follow-up appointments with your surgeon are vital to ensure the continued integrity of your implants.

When should breast implants be replaced?

Although breast implants do not have an expiration date, it is recommended to undergo regular check-ups with your surgeon for an assessment of implant integrity and overall breast health. If any issues arise or if you are experiencing discomfort, it may be necessary to replace or remove your breast implants.
