Understanding Vaser Liposuction

If you’re considering liposuction to tackle troublesome pockets of fat and sculpt the physique you’ve been dreaming of, you’re not alone. Liposuction is the second most popular cosmetic procedure in the US, and its popularity keeps growing.

At Las Vegas Body Sculpting and Aesthetic, board-certified surgeon Mustafa Ahmed, MD, uses vaser liposuction, the latest technology in liposuction, to give men and women in Las Vegas, Nevada, their dream physiques.

Vaser stands for vibration amplification of sound energy at resonance, and it takes advantage of advances in ultrasound technology to deliver optimal results.

Take a moment to learn more about this cutting-edge development in liposuction and whether it could be the right treatment option for you.

How does vaser liposuction differ from traditional liposuction?

Many people are already familiar with traditional liposuction, in which a surgeon uses a hollow tube, called a cannula, and a suction tool, called an aspirator, to remove excess fat. The surgeon makes an incision, inserts the tools, and uses the aspirator to dislodge and remove fat cells.

With vaser liposuction, the same tools are used. However, before Dr. Ahmed inserts the cannula and aspirator, he uses an ultrasound probe. The ultrasound energy waves break down and liquefy the layers of unwanted fat, making fat removal faster and easier.

Vaser liposuction is most effective at treating these areas of the body:

  • Chin
  • Neck
  • Upper arms
  • Chest
  • Abdomen and waist
  • Hips, buttocks, and thighs
  • Back

Vaser liposuction can also treat problem areas that you might not normally think about, like the inner knees.

What are the benefits of vaser liposuction?

While vaser liposuction isn’t the treatment for removing large quantities of fat, it allows for more precision and gives Dr. Ahmed the ability to contour the specific areas you want treated.

Here are some of the other benefits of vaser liposuction:

  • Vaser liposuction takes less time than traditional liposuction
  • Because vaser liposuction is more targeted, nearby tissues aren’t harmed
  • Vaser liposuction makes fat transfer procedures easier
  • Skin contracts and tightens better after vaser liposuction

Vaser liposuction is an outpatient procedure, like traditional liposuction, and you still receive general anesthesia. Recovery takes 4-6 weeks, and you may have some swelling and bruising before your optimal results are revealed around the six-week mark.

Am I a candidate for vaser liposuction?

The best way to learn if you’re a candidate for vaser liposuction is with a consultation at Las Vegas Body Sculpting. Dr. Ahmed evaluates your medical history and discusses your goals to create a customized treatment plan that meets your unique needs.

Vaser liposuction isn’t a weight loss surgery, and candidates should be at or near their target weight. This procedure is best for patients looking to remove extra fat deposits that don’t respond to dieting and exercise.

You may be a good candidate if you:

  • Are age 18-65
  • Have good skin elasticity
  • Don’t have medical conditions that prevent general anesthesia
  • Don’t have certain underlying health conditions (e.g., DVT, pulmonary embolism)
